Hand baths are a very pleasant and useful procedure that will help cope with such troubles as excessive sweating, dryness, redness of the skin, as well as splitting and brittle nails. Pamper your hands with baths not only when visiting the salon, but also at home, especially since it is very simple and does not require large expenses: water, sea salt, citrus juice, vegetable and essential oils, or infusion of medicinal herbs – that’s almost all you need!

Bath Temperature

Depending on the temperature of the water, hand baths come in the following types.

  • Very cold, water temperature 8-14 °C. It can only be taken for a few seconds.
  • Cold, water temperature 20-27 °C. The duration of the procedure is 5-10 minutes.
  • Slightly warm, water temperature 28-33 °C. Duration – 10-20 minutes.
  • Warm, water temperature 34-39 °C. Take – 10-15 minutes.
  • Hot, water temperature 40-42 “C. Duration of the procedure is up to 7 minutes. Helps activate blood circulation, but is contraindicated for heart disease.

To care for hands and nails, warm baths are usually taken to soften the skin. The exception is contrast baths that improve blood circulation.

To strengthen the skin of your hands and make it elastic, perform the following procedure once a week: hold your hands in hot water for 30 seconds, and in cold water for 30 seconds. Repeat 10-12 times. Contrast baths should be finished with cold water.

Hands and nails baths: Recipes

Healing baths for nails and hand skin can be done both during and after a manicure.

Salt bath
  • Sea salt – 1 tbsp
  • Warm water – 1 glass.

Dissolve the salt in water and immerse your hands in the resulting solution for 10-15 minutes. This bath perfectly strengthens your nails and helps prepare your cuticles for a manicure. You can enhance the effect by adding a few drops of lemon or tangerine oil to the bath.

Vitamin hand bath
  • Vegetable oil – 1/4 cup.
  • Vitamin A – 3-5 drops.
  • Lemon juice – 5 drops.

Add vitamin A and lemon juice to warm vegetable oil. Dip your fingers into the resulting mixture for 10-15 minutes. Such baths should be done 1-2 times a week. The product is effective for brittle and split nails.

Hand bath with chamomile
  • Dried chamomile flowers – 2 tbsp
  • Water – 2 glasses.

Pour chamomile flowers into 2 cups of boiling water, cool to a temperature of 40-45 ° C, and dip your hands in the prepared infusion for 15-20 minutes. Then dry your hands with a terry towel and lubricate with nourishing cream.

Dill seed infusion bath
  • Dill seeds – 1 tbsp.
  • Water – 2 glasses.

Brew dill seeds with boiling water, leave for 10 minutes, and cool to 40 °C. Place your hands in the prepared infusion for 15-20 minutes. This bath soothes the skin and relieves irritation and dryness.

Olive-lemon hand bath
  • Olive oil – 1/2 cup
  • Lemon juice – 10 drops.

Heat the olive oil in a water bath, mix with lemon juice, and dip your fingertips in the mixture for 10 minutes. This bath is recommended for brittle nail plates.

Starch bath for hands
  • Starch – 1 tsp.
  • Water – 4 glasses.

Dissolve the starch in a glass of boiling water, and stir thoroughly so that there are no lumps. Then add 3 more cups of warm water. The bath temperature should not be higher than 45 °C. Place your hands in a bath with the starch solution for 15-20 minutes, then, without rinsing with water, lightly blot with a napkin and lubricate with any cream containing vitamins A, E, F, or herbal extracts. This bath is a very effective remedy for softening the skin and strengthening the nails.

After warm baths, it is recommended to massage your hands with a nourishing cream or warm vegetable oil.
